Resolution in Support of Military-Connected Students and Families

Banning Lewis Academy Statement:

At Banning Lewis Academy, we recognize that military-connected students face specific challenges. We seek to support students and provide the resources they need during their transition to our school. At BLRA, we:

● Support students while they navigate meeting new classmates, forming friendships, and finding their place at Banning.
● Provide opportunities for new students to connect with classmates and peers.
● Ensure military-connected students and families receive the support they need while facing life changes, deployments, and other times of transition.

School Based Military Liaison Information

Our counselor, Elizabeth Korver, serves as our School Military Liaison (SML). She serves as the point of contact for military-connected families interested in attending Banning Lewis Ranch Academy and works to support students as they transition into our school. The SML helps with the enrollment process, assists students with academic planning and adjusting to their new school environment, and connects families with the resources they need. The SML partners with the District Military Student & Family Liaison and liaisons from area bases to provide every military-connected student with a positive and supportive experience.

Counseling Services

A variety of resources are available to your student and family. Below is a list of counseling options at your student’s school or through your base.

School Counseling Services:

Banning Lewis offers a variety of school counseling services. Classes take part in monthly social emotional counseling lessons, which focus on social skills and character development. Banning Lewis Ranch’s Counselor, Miss Korver, also offers individual and small group counseling services. If you would like to inquire about counseling services for your student, please reach out to Miss Korver at ekorver@blracademy.org.

A Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC) is also at our school four days a week. The MFLC conducts individual and group sessions, supports students in the classroom, and can provide family sessions/support upon request. Written parent permission is required to receive services from the MFLC. To inquire about these services, please email Miss Korver at ekorver@blracademy.org.
