Dear Parents,

Welcome to Banning Lewis Academy—Home of the Stallions! Since opening our doors in 2006, Banning Lewis Academy has successfully provided families the choice of a world class education in a safe, secure environment. Our students benefit from the tireless efforts made by our staff to develop a wide range of programming that engages each student. From early dawn to nightfall, our campuses are buzzing with activity such as Archery, Choir, Football, Boy Scouts, and much more.

We blend the tradition of character development and values with modern technology and tools to create an engaging learning environment that accelerates student achievement and readiness without losing sight of student wellbeing and personal development. Our mission is to create a safe, positive environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and a thirst for discovery where students and staff succeed through exceptional programs.

Banning Lewis Academy LEADs the Herd in all things academic and in character. LEAD is our school-wide Positive Behavior Expectations meaning Live Safely, Engage with Respect, Act with Kindness, and Demonstrate Responsibility. We focus on noticing the positive in our students and utilizing positive reinforcement! Additionally, we embrace Capturing Kids’ Hearts throughout our K-12 system. The foundation belief of CKH is that if you have a child’s heart, you have their mind. We focus on relationships first and then focus on a robust academic experience.

At Banning Lewis Ranch Academy, we serve students in Grades K-5. Our students receive instruction in all contents through a framework designed to intentionally enhance student engage and provide meaningful learning opportunities for all. We provide a well-rounded student schedule that includes performing arts, PE, art, & music. In addition to academic opportunities, we believe strongly in the partnership between home and school, and provide a variety of parent volunteer opportunities. Yearly highlights include our traditional Celebration of Learning Nights, fun PTO events such as the Fall festival, and end of year student promotions and graduation.

At Banning Lewis Prep, we serve students in Grades 6-12. We carefully transition students into Middle School with a focus on individualized instruction by placing students in appropriate class levels to meet their needs. We offer sports through the Central Colorado Athletic League, numerous clubs and electives. Students will also participate in Stallion Time where they are able to focus on building a strong community and focusing on individual goals throughout the year. In High School, we offer traditions such as Homecoming, Prom, and Student Senate. We focus on Concurrent Enrollment opportunities, Service Learning Projects, Senior Capstone Projects, and college and career readiness (such as online courses, career & technical business programs, foreign exchange program opportunities and much more). At the High School level, our athletes compete in the Tri-Peaks League and have many additional extracurricular opportunities such as FBLA, Jazz & Concert Band, National Honor Society, and more.

Thank you for choosing Banning Lewis Academy!

Sincerely,

Banning Lewis Academy Principals

Mrs. Jordan Voltz, Elementary Principal

Jordan has been a proud Banning Lewis Academy Stallion since 2017. She started her time with Banning as a middle school counselor at BLPA in their inaugural year, before moving over to BLRA in 2018. She served BLRA as school counselor and then assistant principal before becoming principal to start the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Voltz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology, a Master’s degree in Counseling and Human Services, and both professional special service provider and principal licensure certifications with the Colorado Department of Education.  She grew up in Colorado Springs and has been a passionate educator in local schools for over 15 years. Mrs. Voltz is an advocate for a systemic, whole child approach to education. She strives to partner with families and provide support to teachers to ensure that all students have the best opportunity to obtain a rigorous academic education, as they develop into well-rounded citizens ready to achieve their life goals. When not serving and celebrating with her beloved Stallion community, Mrs. Voltz can be found spending quality time enjoying our beautiful state or at a baseball game with her husband, daughter, and son.

Mrs. Athena Rehorst, Secondary Principal

Mrs. Athena Rehorst is happy to join the BLPA family as the High School Principal. Mrs. Rehorst grew up outside of Seattle in Mill Creek, Washington. She attended school at University of Washington where she received a BS in Marine Zoology. While doing community service work during her junior year, Mrs. Rehorst decided that she wanted to be a teacher instead of a researcher. She moved to Colorado and received her M.Ed. from Regis University. She taught 5th grade for one year at Remington Elementary and then spent the next 18 years teaching middle school math, science, and technology, first at Divine Redeemer and then at Carson Middle School. She then took the leap to high school and was the Dean and MTSS Coordinator at Rampart High School for the next 3 years. Mrs. Rehorst is married and has two daughters. Her oldest is a sophomore at St. Olaf in Minnesota and her youngest is a freshman at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs. In her free time she loves to travel, read, and be outdoors!
